Honest and accurate 25 Jun 2009
Another well researched, honest and readable guide that focuses on 2008's Doctor Who output. The writer is obviously a fan and doesn't mind airing his (mildly controversial) views regarding his dislike for Catherine Tate's character Donna Noble or his irritation with Agatha Christie story `The Unicorn and the Wasp', but balances this with his obvious affection for the show.

The format follows previous entries in this series from publisher `Telos', the first half of the book concentrates on the big Doctor Who news stories of the year, such as the impending departure of David Tennant, while the latter half analyses the episodes themselves. Comprehensive, informative and well written; this definitely gets the thumbs-up from me.

Telos here continue their excellent record of Doctor Who series guides. After two written by Shaun Lyon, series four is the second guide by Stephen James Walker. The format is the same as its predecessor: chapters on each story, including the 2007 Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, as well as the Children in Need TimeCrash, in which Peter Davison reprised his role as the fifth Doctor. There are chapters on the run-up to the fourth series, and on how it was received both in the press and by fans and general viewers. As with their previous volumes, Monsters Within is an excellent publication from Telos, and no fan or interested viewer will want to be without it.
