I watched Monsters for the third time today and I'm still taken by both the movie and the soundtrack which weaves it's way beautifully through the film. The haunting 'Candles' and "Monsters Theme" are the standout reasons for the five star rating. Stunning music.

I wholeheartedly agree with the previous reviewer - this is a beautiful soundtrack that really 'gets' the film it is accompanying. I was a fan of Jon Hopkins' work before I ever saw Monsters, but I now think this is possibly the most succinct collection of music he's produced. The tracks not only complement the scenes in which they are present, they infuse them with a resplendence of emotion and feeling that would be otherwise ineffable. This is a vivid auditory translation of the film which is extremely atmospheric and relaxing to listen to. My favourite tracks are "Journey" and "Candles" with "Monsters Theme" running close behind. However, all of the tracks are stunning in their own way and I think even those who aren't too keen on the film will be able to appreciate the music. Highly recommended.
