Swollen Members latest album is, according to Mad Child, an "album in between albums." However this is no weak or pointless album. It is a compilation of B-Sides and unreleased tracks with a few new singles to promote the album, and is devoted to their true fans. Being one of them, not one track disappoints me. I find it hard to understand how every producer from Battleaxe Records manages to carry on producing such amazing beats and cuts. It features: Moka Only on 6 tracks; involves the talented vocals of Nelly Furtado on (no.03) "Breath" and Saukrates produced and raps on (no.04) "Fuel Injected Remix." Mad Child & Prevail both MC some tight lyrics that fit exactly into the sick production from Rob The Viking (and others) and Kemo - especially in "Steppin Thru" which is a fast awesome tune. Moka Only's heavy, bass thumpin' track "Red Dragon" is quite amazing - turn it up loud! (no.19) "Freak Fantastic" is a heavy underground hip-hop party track. I only mention 4 tracks but none I would single out. I rated the album 5 stars but I would give it slightly less than their previous album "Bad Dreams" as - as an album it I think it is better. It's a shame we do not see (i.e. on music tv) and hear Swollen Members around the U.K. But just wait for their new album, which I’m sure, will be as good if not better (i don't know how!) Let's hope they tour England some time! However, this album shouldn't be missed! If you are a true hip-hop fan and want to here lyrical and production delight from what is seen as underground hip-hop, then buy this album. Also see other Battleaxe artists and check out Battleaxe Warriors 3 (April 2003). Get the album or find Monsters in your Closet, HA HA.
