This book is a great compaion to the first volume. It fills a lot of gaps that were apparent. It is however smaller. There are a lot of quality monsters but it lacks quantity. I hoped that there would have been a little more. Elementals are present which is good. The mettalic dragons are also here. There is an obvious slant towards cold based Monsters in the book too.
I would recommend this book.

I would recommend Monster Manual 2 (4th edition) to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of D&D monsters, or a DM who wants to surprise the players, as many of the monsters in this book have never been mentioned previously.

It also clears up a few ambiguous rules and terms given in the Monster Manual 1.

I think that this book is overall an extremely useful tool in any Dungeon Master's repertoir, but any player would gain benefit from it and enjoy it.

Note: My mother bought this book for me, so I have to use her account to review it...

While the first one had quintessential monsters I found this went a a bit more for the esoteric. However there was some overlap - The shadow people had a higher level set of creatures which, while interesting, was something a competent GM could do. That said a lot of it was inspiring and the art was good too.
