1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing: boring, limited, cheap 29 Dec 2013
By J
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Had high hopes, with 5 year old daughter enjoying board games and loving Monsters Inc. Unfortunately the game is very disappointing. The premise is fine, making the monopoly board smaller to speed up the game. But in order to make it playable by younger children, they've lost most of the playability of traditional monopoly. The rules are such that the player who goes first has a strong advantage, in that the properties (in this case monsters) are mandatorily purchased. So, by being out in front, you buy up all the monsters, leaving little for those behind. In traditional monopoly, this is limited by the bigger board, having to ration your spending, and having two dice, so that more spaces are missed out, meaning that there's always more properties for the players behind to buy.

Another change is in the equipment. The biggest shame is that the money is all one denomination - (1 scream notes). These are monochrome, small cheap bits of paper, which are difficult for adults to separate, let alone children. It also removes a potential educational component, meaning that it only promotes counting, rather than any more complicated maths. The counters being moved round are also unimaginative, being baseball caps in different colours (which are also a little tricky to pick up). When you buy the properties/monsters, you get a card (a simplified one of the traditional monopoly), and also put a campus marker on the board in your colour. These look like they replace the traditional house or hotel, but actually they do nothing more than label the monster with an owner - in effect, adding nothing to what the monster card does. In addition, the monster cards are very boring, with nothing more than a picture of there monster and the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love it! 2 Jan 2014
My aunt and uncle bought this for my 6 & 9 yr olds for Christmas. They love it and want to play it constantly. We feel it is a good introduction to monopoly, and games can take just a few minutes so we adults don't mind playing! The kids love the competitive side of it and I think they find it more fun than boring old pall mall and Fleet Street because they know the characters from the film. Brilliant thank you!

Bought this for my son for Christmas and both my partner and I have enjoyed playing it with him. It doesn't go on too long like normal monopoly. It was perfect for my 6 year old and it does get played with a lot.

Brilliant family game!

Bought this for my 5 year old Son and it has certainly become one of his favourite games. I have found this to be a great way to introduce my son to the world of monopoly!

This is a great game that is colourful, quick to learn and very easy to play and I have already recommended it to friends!

This game is played most weekends and provides lots of laughs. A 36yr old and a 34yr old cannot win against a 6yr old well worth the money
