Product Description

Custom PC Magazine Review

5/5 by Stuff Magazine (Nov 2004), "This stunning portable is as powerful as its mighty name implies"

Manufacturer's Description

This player has whipped the flash based MP3 player market into a frenzy with its awesome feature set, aesthetic genius, and all round bullet proof build quality. Monolith is the finest product on sale in the flash based MP3 player market. In to its tiny beautifully finished brushed aluminium body (x-protect) they have crammed enough functionality to for it to out perform all of its competitors. It may be a late entry to the flash MP3 player market, but in this instance the best has been saved for last!

The Monolith II boasts a 24bit Wolfson DAC, intelligent FM timing recording, voice recorder, animated GIF logo editor, lyric display, navigation in unlimited folders, direct encoding, MP3/WMA, language study function, electronic clock function (morning call/alarm/stopwatch), internal lithium ion battery and the obvious storage functionality through the USB.

The x-protect manufacturing method makes the Monolith II exceptionally strong; the casing being able to take some serious impacts. We will be adding a video link to prove the point shortly!

In summary, the Monolith II redefines the standard for flash based MP3 players. A conclusion also reached by What Hifi magazine, who rated it 5/5 and awarded it their "Best Buy" award. This adds to the awards the Monolith has won, also having been rated 5/5 by Stuff Magazine (Nov 2004), and again full marks by Custom PC. To quote, "This stunning portable is as powerful as its mighty name implies"!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Petite player packs a punch, 13 July 2006

This review is from: Monolith II 1GB MP3 Player (Electronics)
Great EQ options, easy drag-and-drop transfer via USB - not like an ipod! Long battery life. Confusing / fiddly bookmarking system involving various buttins, likewise with FM radio station presets. Two things prevented a 5 rating. They are the neck strap, which broke on day 2, and the display, which is unreadable outside on a sunny day, so you have to find a shady area and crouch over it to have a chance. I got it partly because it has a recording timer, but I've found I haven't used it that much as I'm not in a great area reception-wise. The other great thing is a sleep timer. When recording starts on FM a tone and extra hiss are unwelcome added sounds. I haven't yet found a way to adjust mic input volume, so gigs sound distorted. I dropped this on the pavement and the metal case has a small distortion from the impact, but it's still working fine. Accessories: there's an armstrap you can buy, but I'd like a case with a neckstrap.
