Book Description

When Harry Flanagan accepts an invitation to spend a dull Sunday evening ghost-hunting in Glasgow’s notorious Hagen Castle, the last thing he expects is to be caught up in a brutal double murder when two of his fellow ghost hunters are slain in a grotesque fashion. It gets all the more troublesome when the killer appears to be targeting the remaining members of the ghost hunters, picking them off one by one. Then a multi-millionaire movie star, Chaz Mogg, becomes obsessed with the murder-spree and claims to have knowledge the killer is an assassin from a fabled hidden world known to the initiated as Monochrome. To complicate matters further, a shadowy figure who calls himself the Administrator, and who might just be the most powerful man in the world, is also taking a keen interest in the proceedings.

Monochrome is an amalgam of disturbing chiller, cabalistic mystery and religious fantasy bound together with dark wit and devilish humour - Where infernal killing machines rub shoulders with broken-demons, metaphysical stormtroopers, murderous clerical lackeys and garrulous ghosts.

More About the Author

Allan Watson is a writer whose work leans towards the horror and supernatural end of the spectrum. He is the author of four novels - 'Dreaming in the Snakepark', 'Carapace', 'The Garden of Remembrance', '1-2-3-4', Monochrome, and two collections of short stories, 'Mezzanine and other Curiously Dark Tales' and '...And Other Stories'.

In between the books, Allan wrote extensively for BBC Radio Scotland, churning out hundreds of comedy sketches, in addition to being a regular contributor for the world famous 'Herald Diary'.

He also masquerades as a composer/musician, collaborating with crime writer Phil Rickman in a band called Lol Robinson with Hazey Jane II whose albums have sold on four different continents (Antarctica was a hard one to crack)

Allan lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland, but has never worn the kilt or eaten a deep fried Mars Bar.

He is currently pretending to work on something new.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's Black and White and Red All Over? 6 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Sit back, suspend your sense of disbelief and prepare to be entertained, mystified, shocked, tickled and titillated , as the inimitable Allan Watson has crafted another riveting and irreverent masterpiece, as only he can, mixing genre's, and creating a dazzling cast of original characters that you usually only meet in your dreams.

The Cast: Look forward to a slightly psychotic, ninja-like assassin mixing with demons, ghosts, an A list movie star, a vengeful victim, the Glasgow police force, murderous religious icons, and a psychic or two. (To only name a few)

The Plot: When Harry Flannagan tagged along as a lark, on a ghost hunting expedition at Castle Hagen in Glasgow, Scotland, he thought the worst of his troubles was behind him. He's already faced the death of his fiance', Liz, and murderous accusations from his colleagues. But, instead of the hoped for ghosts, ghouls and demons (These come later!), enter Fetish,a highly trained assassin for the church, who will lead Harry and Co. on the adventure of their lives. Now they just have to save Earth, or die trying.

I loved this novel, 5 Stars, one for each time I've read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't stand in the blood... 6 Jun. 2014
By McDroll
Format:Kindle Edition
New novel from Allan Watson - Horror/Crime/Supernatural based in Glasgow. Ghost hunters and parallel worlds collide as the body count rises. The wonderful rolling prose that readers have come to expect from Allan Watson with a touch of the bizarre and comic darkness swirling around your ankles as you step over the pools of blood.

5.0 out of 5 stars When worlds collide 30 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I was hooked from the start by this unlikely band of paranormal investigators visiting an abandoned Scottish castle. Some grisly executions take place that night and we're treated to visitors from parallel worlds, a female avenger, a movie star with a secret life, and some freaky killing machines. If you've read Allan Watson's other books, you're already hungry for this next novel; if you're new to his work, well, hang on for you are in for a treat. No one can top his creative and lusty imagination laced with humor with a spatter of blood. Tying it all together are his masterful storytelling style, his innate pacing and foreshadowing, those quirky but appealing characters and his poetic insights into the dark of the soul. Don't miss his description of that universal fear, the dark, chapter 7....

5.0 out of 5 stars Monochrome 11 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Once again Allan Watson brings us a very memorable tale. "Monochrome" is a well crafted tale, a terrific blend of crime fiction and fantasy peppered with dark humour.
There's quite the motley crew of colourful characters; ghost hunters, coppers and beings from other worlds. There's gore galore and sex aplenty.
All in all a very exciting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read 9 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is an absolute delight.

Finding a new author is rather like a archaeologist discovering hidden treasure and, if Monochrome is anything to go by, Allan Watson is solid gold.

A huge cast of characters skilfully manipulated into a highly original plot laced with dark humour and intelligent prose - it's a treat for anyone prepared to suspend their disbelief.
Actually, disbelief needs locking away in a darkened room rather than suspension, but it really is worth it.

Ok, it's not perfect, even if you can accept the bizarrely wonderful storyline some of the sub plots are a bit hard to swallow. But again, go with the flow and enjoy the ride.

I never give a synopsis in my reviews, if you want to know what the book is about then read it, that's what it's for.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'I'll have what she's having...' 7 Aug. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
What price fame, wealth, sex and influence? In this case it is a journey to another realm and the inevitable moral and murderous consequences. Allan Watson gives a unique and dark twist to the concept of 'to deal with the devil', so tread warily down into the tapering helix that is Monochrome where bizarre villains lurk and even the admin can be a killer. A breathtaking page turner of quite extraordinary energy and imagination that will have you gasping with horror one moment and snorting with laughter the next. Gory, witty and sexy - this is possibly Allan Watson's best work to date. Highly recommended, just don't be surprised if you have trouble sleeping.
