A are the latest big thing, it seems and well done to them. If you've been hooked by the power of recent single Nothing, then give A's back catalogue (including Monkey Kong) a good listen.

Combining excellent melody with heart felt yet never depressing lyrics, these guys draw on a limitless sense of fun and energy to bring a real upper of an album.

Definitely recommended if you're into fun with meaning, melody with musicianship.

The not very well known brit rockers 'A' Have outstanded fans with their brilliantly uptempo and outstanding songwriting. This album is no exception to the formula, a brilliant mix of fantastic lyrics, foot stomping guitar riffs, headbanging druming and truly outstanding 'frontmanning' from lead singer Jason Perry. From the first track 'For starters' you realise that this is A at their finest, shortly followed by 'Monkey Kong', which hilariously questions the famous 'Donkey Kong's name, to 'Old Folks' shedding light on the worlds true view of the more elderly population, the chilled and oddly named 'Hopper Jonus Fang'. I'll stop talking about it now and allow you to listen to the songs. All you gotta do is hit the 'Add to basket' button and youve got this fantastic album. Trust me, its worth every penny plus more.

A are probably this country's best-kept punk rock secrets. They blend a sound that is at times as rough and hardcore as they come and at times gentle and sweet with some crazy distorted electronica and Jason's unusual vocals. Surprisingly it all works fantastically well and it proves that it is perfectly possible to get a catchy, addictive sound without being tame and utterly predictable like so many American punk rock bands are. If this isn't too crude a way of putting it: These guys could piss all over most of the bands who get on the Warped tour. This is proper punk rock: not tired punk-pop.
This album hits you immediately, hard and fast. "For starters" and "Monkey Kong" are both storming declarations of intent (and check out the inventive use of a spelling toy on the later!) The pace then winds down a little with the chilled-out blast of "A," soon followed by my personal favourite "Hopper Jonnus Fang," which is a lovely, dreamy musing on the effect of the fame that will surely come and the more down-to-earth "Summer on the underground." "If it ain't broke" gets things speeding again (more than a little offspring influence detected here) and then comes a piece of absolute pop brilliance with "I love lake Tahoe." which has a chorus as memorable as anything Green Day have written. The album can't quite keep this quality up over 14 tracks but "Down on the floor" and especially the fine closer "Getting around" ensure things never become boring.
All in all this is a pretty incredible effort and it proves that punk is very much alive and well here in England. Admittedly we do have to look a little harder for it than across the pond but maybe that's no bad thing because these guys, along with (spunge) and king prawn are just lightyears ahead of the likes of new found glory and blink 182 in terms of songwriting if not popularity.
Anyway, do yourselves a favour and buy this album. If you like it I strongly recommend you catch them on tour.

ROCK ON!!!!
