Good travel guide 9 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been to Mongolia for a 3 week trip in the south and central parts, and took this book with me. I had other travel guides but I preferred to take this one.
It proved the (usual) high standard of LP books, wiht a lot of information of relevant places and things to see, and accurate info on places where to stay and sleep. It also gives GPS coordinates - a useful add on in that country.
Probably prices have increased a bit since this issue was released, but that is minor.
Highly recommended

Last edited in 1997, I found the contents of the book slightly outdated when I went to Mongolia this summer - for example the train time schedules were not as accurate as I hoped it would be. Apart from that the book gives a good introduction to the history and culture of Mongolia, and it gives a good idea of what you should expect. One piece of advice though - if you're seriously considering travelling in Mongolia but don't speak Mongolian at all, the Mongolian Phrasebook is a must.

Very out of date 7 Oct 2010
By JC
Format:Paperback
This was written in 2007 and things have moved on a great deal since, particularly in Ulaanbaatar which is growing sky scrapers and associated services such as restaurants and designer stores at quite a rate. Unfortunately the roads won't keep up with the increased population and traffic. A colleague bumped into the Lonely Planet author who is currently going round doing the research for the update so hopefully this won't take too long to get out in print. Useful for background information, however maps, directions, timing information should be checked in advance or obtained from elsewhere.
