Product Description

Product Description

It was a gruelling adventure and an epic challenge. On the face of it, all we had to do was get from London to Mongolia. But looking deeper it was going to be a lot less simple than it had first appeared. We had minimal planning, bought a horribly underpowered car that was fit for scrap, had no external support, no prior expedition experience or survival knowledge and decided to do it all in the name of charity. We only allowed ourselves three weeks to complete the adventure. I hadn't even heard of half of the countries we were intending to cross and certainly didn't speak the languages but we'd go for it anyway and see how things turned out. It couldn't be that hard after all. Here's my account of how it happened, what we came across, the scrapes we got into and how we got out of them and a selection of the numerous photos I took on the 9,592 miles to Mongolia. Some experiences defied belief, some were mildly terrifying but there are none that I will ever forget.

You couldn't invent the trials and tribulations that took place during this rally! If you are planning on travelling across the continent you couldn't find a better book to demonstrate every possibility that you may have to battle against along the way. This personal account of an almost impossible and seemingly improbable mission takes you right to the heart of the experience, never lacking in detail and always surprising as you read on to the next country along the way... I genuinely couldn't put it down, and with every border crossing you start to wonder how close this book came to never being written!
I'm jealous I didn't go too...

We all know that there are problems regarding travel across Asia without Thomas Cook or Kuoni but reading in such detail makes it much more realistic. I couldn't put the book down as I wanted to know what other problems it was possible to face and could they really get through? I know that I could not have been so calm throughout the almost daily crises with the unsuitable vehicle and 'locals'.Mongol Rally - Three Weeks into the Unknown

Excellent well written and captivating travel diary of two guys competing in the London to Mongolia Rally in a Suzuki Jeep which cost them £500! This book was very hard to put down and it an amazing journey through some of the worlds most unvisited countries, where they meet some very interesting and memorable people. Highly recommended.
