About the Author

Alvin Hall has his own rags-to-riches story. He grew up in Florida, did well at school and was the first person in his family to go to university. After that, he worked as a teacher. He was excited about earning a wage for the first time, and soon found it hard to control his spending. He ran up big bills that he couldn't afford to pay. But Alvin didn't hide from the problem. Instead, he took on an extra job and followed some basic rules. Gradually he got back in control and he hasn't had a single money problem since!

Alvin now runs a financial services training company. He has presented many TV programmes including the award-winning Your Money or Your Life and The Apprentice - You're Fired. His books include Your Money or Your Life (winner of the 2003 WHSmith People's Choice Best Business Book award) and What Not To Spend. He lives in New York.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic but good 24 Sep 2010

Format:Paperback
I chose this edition because it was cheaper than subsequent books by Alvin Hall. It's very user friendly and covers ALL the basic elements to help self-analyse why we spend what we do; how to monitor and measure spending habits and how to start making changes. Suitable for teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars common sense to money 15 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is written by the famous money expert alvin hall who used to have a spending addiction himself so has experience of how easy it is not to be able to control finances.

This book is very simple unlike other finance books I have read in that it lists simple stages to make the reader aware of the financial mistakes they have made. It starts by advising writing down the daily expeditures which we dont think about such as a newspaper and also by looking over expenses from last year to ask ourselves if we really needed those items at the time and if we still feel excited about using them.

I feel this book will help me get on track to financial freedom. a good price as well
