5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid overview of Monet 24 Dec 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Before purchasing this I looked at a number of books on Monet but each time I was drawn back to this. It is fairly definitive, containing a very wide selection of Monet's paintings and giving a very accessible and detailed account of Monet's life. The balance throughout is perfect and the book is aesthetically appealing in itself. I would recommend this without reservation to anyone who wants an enjoyable overview of Monet's life and work. Better than all the competition that I managed to find!

5.0 out of 5 stars exactly what i've been looking for! 23 May 2012

It's always difficult to find a book with close to all of an artist's works, but this book has done it! this book not only has numerous images by the artist, but also very in depth details/passages on his personal life and his surroundings at the time. If you want a book that will stun you with its amount of pictures as well as its information, this book is the one. Fair warning though: The book is quite large. I'm not sure if that was a part of the description, but i was surprised when it arrived. It's roughly the size of an average school hardcover text book (hopefully that helps). so other than the surprise in size, this book is simply great for any monet fans out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and beautifully illustrated 25 Oct 2012
By Battleship - Published on Amazon.com
Susie Hodge wrote a good book on the life and works of Monet. The author is a clear communicator. I have read another book about art that she has written and it is also of superb quality. She includes information about Monet's life, his most famous works, and the evolution of his style.

Monet was an originator of Impressionism. In fact, the name of the art movement came from one of his early paintings. Monet's style was a departure from the cold and formal styles of previous generations. His paintings were like what you would see if you were traveling by a landscape in a car with the window open. The colors seem to merge together and objects are not perceived like they would be in a still shot.

The book is outstanding. Most of Monet's significant works are beautifully illustrated. I especially enjoy his water lily paintings. I had the pleasure of seeing some of his original works at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I recommend this book for anyone who desires to learn more about this brilliant trend-setting artist.

The book meets all my expectations. The pictures are great, all in color. The quality of the pictures, the printing, and the paper are excellent. The text is also interesting with commentary accompanying each painting.
