About the Author
Lauren Chattman is a former pastry chef, a cookbook author, and an ardent home baker. As a mother of two small children, and with formal pastry training and restaurant experience, she has made a career out of translating upscale food trends into easy recipes that can be made at home, realistically and without stress, and enjoyed by the entire family. After earning her Ph.D. in English and teaching for two years at Yale University, Chattman moved to New York City with her husband and newborn daughter and enrolled in a professional pastry and baking program at The Institute for Culinary Education. Upon completion of an apprenticeship under Franois Payard at Restaurant Daniel, Chattman was hired as pastry chef at the prestigious Nick and Toni's restaurant in East Hampton, New York. She now develops her desserts in her own kitchen and focuses on making use of her store of tips, tricks, and shortcuts that enable busy cooks and bakers to create high - quality, family - pleasing food without a lot of fuss. Chattman is the best - selling author of several cookbooks. She is also the co - author, with Roland Mesnier, of Roland Mesnier's From Basic to Beautiful Cakes and Dessert University. Shame is all the recipes are in american measurements, but there are some GREAT cookie recipes in here, IF you can get the ingredients that are specified!!!
You can soon use measuring cups to convert, as I do (being honest it's easier) but the downside is that the flour is different, as are a lot of the ingredients unavailable in the UK
Other than that there are some yummy recipes if you want to give it a try

I own the author's "Mom's Big Book of Baking" and use it all the time, so I bought this book from Amazon sight unseen. While I've used it alot, I don't know if I really need both of her books as many of the recipes appear in both books in slightly altered form. That being said, I have used the book several times and my kids like cooking from it because the pictures are so appealing. It's also spiral bound, so it's easy to keep open on the counter when you are cooking with 2 kids at your heels.

I love to bake, but sometimes faall into a rut of making the same things over and over. This huge collection of cooking inspires me to try new things that are still kid-friendly (esp. important for my picky kid!) Chattman sprinkles her recipes with charming antedotes about her childhood and family, it's like walking into a warn kitchen that smells of freshly baked cookies and chatting with a friend.
