"Molvanian Baby Names" is an interesting follow-up to the trilogy of Jetlag Travel Guides (which are, in order, "Molvania", "Phaic Tan" and "San Sombrero"). This book returns to where it all began - in the squalid, disreputable former Soviet satellite of Molvania, but this time, what little of Molvanian culture does exist is put under the microscope and examined through the various names popular in Molvania.
This book is a good read, but it isn't one to be read cover-to-cover. After a while, the lengthy list of names will get boring, and it's probably best to put it down and pick it up again later. The jokes are good, don't get me wrong, but unlike "Molvania", the format does not allow the writers to be as creative as they'd like.
It would be interesting if this book were followed up with "Traditional Phaic Tanese Names" and "Traditional San Sombreran Names" to connect with the other two books in the series, though I have my doubts that this will happen. As I have said, this book is a great read, but not as good a wheeze as its predecessors, and the writers may struggle to come up with a follow-up as equally good, if not better, than this.
