Product Description

Bryter Music - The Estate of Nick Drake, presents a CD portfolio package of the songs and poetry of Nick Drake's mother, Molly Drake. A singular and sophisticated artist in her own right, Molly Drake's influence on her son's music is undeniable. In the words of Nick's producer, Joe Boyd "This is the missing link in the Nick Drake story". Nevertheless, she never published either her songs or her poetry during her lifetime, and we only have her recordings due to the fact that her husband insisted she put them down on tape. This collection, lovingly restored by Nick Drake's engineer, John Wood, does not attempt to be anything more than it is - home recordings intimately staged in the family sitting room. We believe that her haunting music, her elegant lyrics and her poetry hint at deeper perceptions of the sublime and deserve to be heard by a wider audience. Portfolio contains one CD with 19 songs, including 'How Wild The Wind Blows', 'Poor Mum', 'Never Pine For The Old Love' and 'Love Isn't A Right'. Also included, a 72 page book with a selection of poems by Molly Drake.

5.0 out of 5 stars A LOST WORLD TREASURE. 12 Mar 2013
By DEANO.
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Hi there, this is so beautiful to listen to, a world that no longer exists shines through on these songs more than any pictures could do.
I am a very big fan of Nick Drake, but this on it's own merits deserves a listen.
This has become one of my favourite CD's, which I did not think would happen?
I think that the love of her two children comes through beautifully on these recordings, highly recommended, please have a listen, Deano.

P.S. Thank you GlynLuke, comments noted and amended

5.0 out of 5 stars I was pleasantly surprised! 18 Mar 2013
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD because Poor Mum from Dick Drake's Family Tree and from the DVD A Skin To Few kept hanging around in my head. All the other songs on this CD do too. I was pleasantly surprised by it's beauty and intimacy. I experience it as a privilege to listen to these recordings, it feels being a friend of the family. The not perfect recording quality gives a feeling of slightly blurred memories! Lovely! I play this CD often, it has an soothing atmosphere not easily found on other albums... a dusty diamond! Nick is the ring everyone wears, this is where he started.
The song texts and poetry in the nicely shaped portofolio reminiscences of Nick's writing,
