For a long while this has been one of my favorite albums, and probably my favorite Ween Album.
As with most Ween albums it is fairly Eclectic in style, a mix of stoner rock, electronica, ballads, drinking songs, and the Ocean...
This is a bit of a concept album, the majority of the songs are based around the ocean, as you can tell from the cover and song titles.
The opening track is a cover of an old show tune, and uses Weens classic bizzare vocals, which work well to make the voice childlike.
The Mollusk is a great track, it shows the strength of Gene Weens vocals, with whimsical lyrics and an up tempo melody.
The next few tracks consist of similar lyrical style, but then we hit johnny on the spot which ups the tempo, and the lyrics are quite amusing.
The we have mutilated lips, which is a great song, very diverse sounds, extremely original!
The blarney stone is a very funny drinking song, you'll be on the grog in no time!
I love the ballads on this album, She wanted to leave is about a pirate and love, its a beautiful story lyric. Also "cold blows the wind" is said to be a Japanese traditional written by ween... but it means that it is beautiful, lyrically and musically, a glorious supernatural tale.
This album will sit in your cd player forever, its hard to get bored of!
