Leave it to Carsten Nicoali to build up on a book on something as complex and fleeting as a moiré effect. Fans of the Nicolai's other books should find Moiré Index more accessible than, say, Grid Index because, at the end of the day, it's more about visual play than it is mental play. I think if you pick up this book with a sense of humor (sort of like Magic Eye) and creativity, you could realize the infinite number of possibilities that laying one graph over the other could create. The book even comes with several transparencies so that you can create these moiré effects yourself, or twice over if you wish. And that's the simple yet tension-filled moment captured in this book. Well done!

Who else but Carsten Nicolai could create such a wonderfully irreverent, topic-specific to the point of alienating, crazily researched survey on, of all things, the moiré effect? This book is a trip, and probably the most in-depth examination of a widely rampant phenomenon that started with fabrics and textiles and ended up onscreen.
