I do not normally buy nor like pictorial studies. However in this one there is a wealth of information in the captions and the case studies provide insights into the mishaps.
A must for anyone interested in rail safety or an interest in rail ingeneral.

This is a well laid out book, with excellent photos. Sadly some of the written information is inaccurate. 3 examples. Newton Abbot 158/HST collision--implied driver SPADed signal, wrong- permissive movement and 158 driver misjudged his speed approaching HST in platform.
Fairwood Jn-- Class 50 loco derailed due to attempting to set back through points.
Whatley Branch (Frome)-- Not runaway, but derailment due to poor track quality, track at that location maintained by Mendip Rail. these are three that i have close knowledge of so can pick up errors. However, i expect that there are others. Not what you would expect from a book price as this one is.

This is a well laid out publication with many interesting and unusual illustrations but unfortunately the quality of the text and captions leaves quite a bit to be desired. The authors may well have excellent knowledge about their chosen subject but their understanding of grammar and punctuation is certainly not their strong point. It's a pity because it spoils an otherwise excellent book.
