Forget Goldfrapp's 'Head First' - it's mere candyfloss pastiche in comparison to this album. Tesla Boy seem to have teleported themselves back to 1985 and completely recreated the DNA of mid-80s synthpop music scene without actually pastiching existing songs - no mean feat!

The epic, sophisticated, gorgeous and funky songs channel a diverse range of sounds from Hall & Oates, early A-ha, through Scritti Politti, Howard Jones, and even Pet Shop Boys, George Michael and Genesis. The songs are completely about the luxurious sonic landscape but never lose sight of a good hook.

All this and the signature incomprehensible and slightly strangulated vocals of the period too...it's like someone just discovered a lost 80s classic album! More please!

It would have been better if the cd was in a stronger case as those type of cases can get scuffed very easily

This and his 2009 E.P that i own are my holy grails i am so much liking the 80's feel and to my knowledge only available on CD in the U.K and the E.P (CD edition) Russia' shame because the second album is download only....yes i said it i am not a fan of the MP3 era......plus the E.P has a couple of very good tracks included surprisingly not included on the Modern Thrills Album.

The most excellent album I've ever discovered by accident! 29 Mar. 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
It is not even healthy how many times I've listened to this album. At the gym, at work, in my car, at home while I'm cleaning. If it was possible to wear out electronic files I would have done it by now. It is incredibly fantastic from beginning to end. For fans of Depeche Mode, with a hint of Michael Jackson and twist of Wham. But with the most modern edge imaginable. It is a perfect lovechild of the best of today's electro sounds and quintessential 80s synthpop bliss. Every time I listen to it I hear another layer of the impressively complex programming that went into creating the atmosphere that carries from track to track. It almost breaks my heart that this band may never gig outside of Eastern Europe and I may never get to see them in the flesh. You can be sure if they ever come stateside, I will be first in line for tickets.

Try it. If you love synthy 80s goodness, you will think you've died and gone to heaven!

Russia & Another Fabulous Band 2 Jun. 2010
By Alexander Lawrence - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
In the past decade or so, Russia seems to be stepping up to the plate, so to speak, musically. Another fabulous band and I was expecting some punk-ish rubbish, but not this time around. I hope Tesla Boy does well with this Album/CD. They're fresh, up-to-date with 80's dance/electronic elements, and have the pizazz to reach high on the world chart status. The 3 tracks that stand out the most are - "Rebecca", "Fire" and "Speed Of Light". Actually, the electronics, percussion, vocals, etc, balance very well in most of the tracks on Modern Thrills by Tesla Boy.

Overall, there isn't a bad track on this Album/CD. Every song holds strong with excellent vocals and way cool instrumentation. In case some readers wonder what genre they fall under, I can list three that are a definite, which are - Electropop, Electronic, and Synthpop. Those three hold the strongest with their elements on this Album. I would truthfully rate this in my top ten albums of the last decade, roughly (Between 2000 and 2010).

I highly, and without any doubts, recommend this album for any Electronic or Synthpop fan.

Tesla Boys bring back the disco and 80s funk 3 Oct. 2010
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I came to know about this band from one of John B's podcasts. I am as much of a dnb head as I am an 80s man. I was immediately captivated by the song titled "Rebecca", which happens to be my favorite tune in this release. I had to pick this one up. What came as a surprises is that the other tunes in the CD were very good as well. A bit learning towards the euro/italo disco genre, but kept fresh with new vocal treatment that gave the whole album a punkish, disco not disco feel. In the tradition of giving the album a buy it or trash it rating, I give it a buy it!
Infectious New Wave 24 Dec. 2012
By J. L. Shipp - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Tesla Boy is a Russian band that sings in English and is a refreshing injection of new wave carried on by another generation in an alternate more contemporary form. The songs are catchy and infectious. I highly recommend the track "Rebecca." The lead singer has a voice that dips and dives and soars and is harmonious with the music but different enough to rise above it without be swallowed by it. It's definitely an album that makes for good driving music. The music is crystal and does not suffer from poor production. It's solid pop. It won't thrill bass lovers but the instrumentation and symphonic quality should make for a very pleasing auditory high, especially with some headphones.
Modern Thrills is on a whole different level in Synthpop! 24 Sept. 2012

I've come to known this Russian group by listening to similar music style bands with that 80's classic Funk snyth sounds crisp and clean. I'm a synth fanatic so this album is my kind of style to listen to. The Vocals are perfect and I'm a giver when it comes to that... take all my money. You can take my word for it. Tesla boy is a whole another fusion of itself. SynthPop/New wave/disco you decide it's all there. The new up coming band has now came to the U.S and is increasing in audience.

I got the chance to watch Tesla Boy live in NYC performing away from their album Modern Thrills. I loved the performance and I'll do it again when they come back. It was just as good as the Album! if you ever get the chance to hear them live please do so... it's a experience you'll never forget.
