This book was first published about eighty years ago and still has much relevence in todays construction methods. It is aimed at experienced craftsmen and shows some forgotton techniques that are seldom used in todays joinery. The book looks at just about everything to do with wood from basic joints to circular stair casings and sash windows. A worthy read for joiner who wishes to expand his knowledge or for a quiet read.

As a guide to how to do joinery, this is THE book, get it and learn! I did, after serving a traditional apprenticeship.. many years ago.. this book followed on and there is much in ity for any woodworker.

Still by far the best book ever written on the subject. A must buy for joiners/ craftsmen working on old buildings and making traditional joinery. I have been using this book for reference for over 25yrs, and every new apprentice/employee gets a copy in the workshop!. No other book offers such a comprehensive and detailed account of how the craft of joinery should be done. I recommend if you buy this to also purchase Modern Practical Stairbuilding and Handrailing by the same author!!
