I have been using this book since the early seventies in one form or another. Problem is my old copy was dog-eared due to use and it was a 1970's edition so well out of date.
I bought the up-to-date version on the basis that it would be just that, up-to-date. well it is but it also covers areas which are now irrelevant and I and a colleague wasted a lot of time reading parts of chapters which were of no use. For example I read the taxation pages and the use of dual rate tables including sinking funds (bored yet?) Well it covers the subject in depth but I really do not need to have the full history of sinking funds, a few sentences would suffice or the way to calculate it without tables! Regret found that a irritating waste of my time. Similarly a colleague needed to brush up on residential valuations and I did pre-warn him that the first part of the chapter may be a bit dated and that expect to find more up-to-date valuation methods at the end of the chapter. Guess what - he did find the book exactly as I said.
Now I am not going to bemoan the book as it is valuable tool for valuers but please update the book and remove the irrelevant or out of date information. Ok give some of the history but the book should be bout valuation today.
