This book is written by very insightful writers, and it's written in a very clear and easy to understand way.
But I think it's written only with US college students in mind. For example, the book starts off by explaining why it's useful to learn about Latin America - and the answer is that it's important to US trade, etc etc a long list of US centric reasons. The book does not always defend the US position on every issue, it does give alternative ways of viewing issues, but the angle is always related to the US in some way.
As a non-US reader wanting to focus on Latin America I found the choice of angle tiresome. I got through 1/3, then I put this book down and started on another. So I would only recommended it to North American readers, wanting the story relating Latin America to the US.
