Although Modern Jihad may seem to be a specialist book it is very accessible to all, offering great insight into the ways in which global terrorism has become a macabre one-and-a-half-trillion dollar business. The book explores the role that governments have played in supporting terrorist groups and the methods that these groups have used to become self-supporting. Napoleoni engages the reader through the use of anecdotes often drawing on her experience of interviews with terrorists. In spite of the content being highly political, Napoleoni takes a non-partisan approach to highlight the activities of several terrorist groups including the FARC in Columbia, the IRA and, of course, al Quaeda. Anyone with an interest in world affairs will find this a fascinating and illuminating book.
