3.0 out of 5 stars Value for Money??nh 10 April 2003
By Elizabeth Taylor VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I purchased this workbook together with its sister publication ''Modern'' Italian Grammar but was disappointed. My feeling is that it is somewhat overpriced and is not as useful as it first appears. It covers many levels of ability which is not physically possible in the 100 pages (including answers) and is not a book to use alone as a means of improving your italian. The excercises are split into Language Structures, Expressing Needs and Short Scenes but if you are following a separate evening class or general book aimed at learning Italian the excercises which might be applicable at any specific stage are not easy to find. Perhaps because of that and certainly as a beginner I was unable to find a clear means of progressing through the book and was not able to use it to effectively complement the evening class I was attending. As a result it ended up more often than not on the shelf. If you however you are studying intensively via another means or have the money to blow just to double-check what you are learning elsewhere and just want some additional excercises focused explicitly on grammar it might be worth considering.

Perfect when used with the Modern Italian Grammer book at the same time. I find it really tests my understanding of the Italian Grammer and make me think a bit more beyond the standard phrases. Getting a solid foundation in grammatic structure is the key to fast forwarding in any language learning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Italian Grammar 12 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Yet another Italian Grammar book to add to my ever growing collection. Give you more practice of things you have learned and is the perfect compliment to the OU course, and other Italian workbooks I've bought. Can never get enough practice. Thanks Anna another good investment

3.0 out of 5 stars not sure about the grammar 6 July 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought just a workbook because i wanted to practice more. I have a couple of different grammar books, plus i go to websites for more resource. I've gone though a few chapters and i have already found differences in what I've learned till now and in what this book suggests. But even my online recourses say grammar in this book is wrong. So this left me a bit perplexed and if i find more mistakes like these i'm gonna regret buying this book, even though there are only few.
Otherwise i like the structure of it. The excercises are very much my way of learning. They are to the point, easy to check with the key in the end. Don't buy the workbook on it's own if you don't have any kind of guide. But the book could be a bit more thicker for this kind of price.
