5.0 out of 5 stars The best horse herbal written to date 25 May 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Hilary Page Self has filled a very important gap in the horse care market. She explains very clearly and without too much pre-amble the different herbs that can help in all sorts of common equine complaints. Each herbal review is divided into convenient sections such as history, useage, dosing etc so that information is easy to find. This is not a canky vague guide to herbs but an essential reference that every horse owner should at least read if not own and it would also be of tremendous interest to vets. Hilary has excelled herself with the writing of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect herbs for horses reference book 13 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
A Modern Horse Herbal is the book that I consult most when I have any medical problem with my horses. It is split into two main parts: herbs listed alphabetically detailing when and where to find them and what they can be used for, and which herbs to use for common ailments. Hilary also refers to other alternative therapies such as bach flower remedies, homoeopathy and aromatherapy where appropriate. Very clearly written with interesting case studies, it's the perfect reference book for giving herbs to horses. The book isn't a guide to identifying herbs and other than a few small drawings there are no illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars very informative 13 May 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a great little book for understanding how the different herbs work on the body - whilst its specifically aimed at horse owners, it does give you the bigger picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars interesting. 24 Aug 2013
By COB
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found that I was fast getting sooked into the whole marketing strategy targeted at us horse owners with sprays for this, supplements for that. . . . . . Sometimes it's hard to see the woods for the trees. I'm not saying I'll never buy a tub of this or that ever again, but largely nature has a nice helping hand to offer if we can get past our desire for attractive packaging ! There are not many illustrations or photos, so if you are not familiar with hedgerow plants, then another book is required, but the information was really interesting. It's a book I will keep reffering back to. I have a young horse on long term box rest & I believe the herbs have helped - even if nothing else, her diet has been safely pepped up & she's enjoyed every mouthful !
