Product Description

Product Description
Authors Nick Davidson and Shaun Hunt are going through a mid-life crisis as far as football is concerned. Now they've reached early middle-age, they are wondering what has happened to the beautiful game. Where have all the muddy pitches gone? They wallow in nostalgia for 3pm Saturday kick-offs and cup upsets. They rant against inflated egos, spiralling salaries and satellite TVs - and they wonder about men in tights and gloves. Nick Davidson is also the author of Team Shirts to Ticket Stubs published by Watford Football Club.

About the Author
Nick works as a freelance graphic designer (he designed the cover artwork for Modern Football is Rubbish). He studied History and Politics at Warwick University.
This is Nick's second book. In 2002, he wrote Team Shirts to Ticket Stubs: A Visual History of Watford Football Club 1977-2002 published by Watford Football Club.

Shaun works as a manager for a well-known restaurant chain. Shaun studied History at Warwick University between 1990-93. Although Nick and Shaun played in the same football team at university it took them several months to realise they were actually on the same degree course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christmas present for football fans!, 11 Nov 2008
By B. L. Gardner - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Billionaire owners rub you up the wrong way? Ashley Cole not your cup of tea? Then you will love this book! Satirical, humorous and poignant, it covers everything you have ever moaned or reminisced about. From kids' kickabouts to the World Cup, via Panini stickers, Grange Hill and Roy of the Rovers, this witty and well written book stands out above the plethora of Grumpy Old Men titles. Obviously written by fans who know their stuff, Modern Football is Rubbish is both funny and thought provoking, raising important questions about the state of the game without taking itself too seriously. And if you have ever fanatasised about Penny Race, then you should definitely buy this.
I would love to see a follow up, as there are still so many issues and memories for them to cover. Perhaps they could even turn their attentions to other sports. I know I would buy it. They deserve their chance above celebrities just sponsoring another football book, like Tim "nice but dim" Lovejoy.
Real football writing for a real game!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is rubbish...modern football that is, 1 Sep 2008
By Stefan T. Dimic - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well done boys, you've said just about everything that most fans have felt for over a decade now.....modern football sucks, to coin a horrible American phrase. The game just takes, takes, takes, from its fans and the players hardlty ever feel much for any club only the size of the pay cheques....or bank transfers I suppose they are now.
I say stuff the WAGS, the highlighted hair ,the perma tan, all the flash and lets get back to reality...us fans have had enough y'know. Look at the crowds for matches already this season, they are down...its not the credit crunch ..its disillusionment.
Modern football is rubbish sets an angry and humorous look at this new world and how bad it is, those of you out there in need of a few good belly laughs and a reality check in words...go get it NOW ! you will not be disappointed.

"Angry of Norrfolk"...."Come on you Yellows"

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern football might be rubbish but this book isn't, 18 Aug 2008
By SarahKerenza (Watford, UK) - See all my reviews
'Modern Football is Rubbish' is laugh out loud funny, but it is also poignant and thought-provoking. This book will evoke childhood memories for most football fans and have them shouting 'I remember that!', whilst at the same time getting them thinking about what is so right, and what has gone so wrong, with football today.
It would have been easy for the writers to produce another throw-away football giftbook or a nostalgia-trip that would appeal to only one club's fans, but instead they've come up with something much better and a unique guide to the Beautiful Game.
