A fantastic book. Cleverly written and intelligent. This book has been written by real football fans who have experienced the same joy and incredible pain that many of us have watching and playing the beautiful game. How I long to be twenty years younger and experiencing the same things again. You can almost smell the wintergreen and muddy boots and the piss soaked terraces on the pages of this book. Have bought loads of copies for friends, who have phoned me straight away to reminisce about the topics explored. Just plain football gold.

Very entertaining 1 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
This book was bought as a chistmas present for my dad. He is a massive football fanatic who continuously says football is not like the good old days. This book emcompasses this idea building on all aspects of the game and comparing them to previous years with light humour. It was a quick but very entertaining read which i recommend to any older football fans who remember the beautiful game when it wasn't so beautiful!

Well done boys, you've said just about everything that most fans have felt for over a decade now.....modern football sucks, to coin a horrible American phrase. The game just takes, takes, takes, from its fans and the players hardlty ever feel much for any club only the size of the pay cheques....or bank transfers I suppose they are now.
I say stuff the WAGS, the highlighted hair ,the perma tan, all the flash and lets get back to reality...us fans have had enough y'know. Look at the crowds for matches already this season, they are down...its not the credit crunch ..its disillusionment.
Modern football is rubbish sets an angry and humorous look at this new world and how bad it is, those of you out there in need of a few good belly laughs and a reality check in words...go get it NOW ! you will not be disappointed.

"Angry of Norrfolk"...."Come on you Yellows"

one of the worst books ever written
Given as a gift at Christmas, thank God I didn't pay for it. Very short very poorly researched and one of the worst books I have had the misfortune to read

I was a little disappointed with this book. Maybe I should write my own. People are too frightened these days to say what they really think for fear of American-style litigation... Read more

I'm not even over 30 and I love it
To be honest, I haven't finished it yet. Why? Because I don't want it to end! I am learning an awful lot about how it was to be a football fan growing up in the 70s or 80s. Read more

Great stocking filler for any real footy fan!
Having got this book in the 'off season', that period that seems to become shorter and shorter with each passing year, it rekindled some fond memories of how footy used to be, and... Read more

Modern football may be rubbish, but this book is great!
What an unexpected gem of a book! Think `Is it just me or is everything s**t?', but for football, and you're not far wide of the mark. Read more
