Modern Family is a mocumentary show (in a similar style to The Office: An American Workplace Seasons 1-3 [DVD] or Curb Your Enthusiasm: Complete HBO Seasons 1-6 [DVD]) created by Christopher Lloyd (Frasier - Series 1-11 - Complete [DVD] [1993]) and Steven Levitan (Just Shoot Me!: Seasons One and Two [DVD] [1998] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]) and it follows the families of Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), and his son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) who all live in Los Angeles. Claire is a homemaker mom in a traditional family, married to Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell); they have three children. Jay is married to a much younger woman, Gloria (Sofía Vergara), and is raising a pre-teen stepson. Mitchell and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) are a gay couple who have adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily. The families meet for family functions, around the neighborhood, and cross-family bonding.
I caught this show on the off-chance (luckily it was the pilot too) and was instantly hooked - it is hilarious! As well as being side-splittingly funny, the show is also very realistic with everyday scenarios that could (and do) happen to anyone and everyone. The chemistry and interaction between the actors' characters is spot-on and feels very genuine, so I truly admire how well each and every one of the cast perform in this fantastic new show. Each episode also revolves around a theme - whether it be fear, lying, Christmas etc, so never gets boring or short of variety. Thankfully it has been renewed for at least a second season so there's plenty more to come and I sincerely look forward to seeing where this show goes in the future. I highly recommend giving this a watch - this is definitely the best and most clever comedy series I have seen in a long time.

This is a genuinely funny programme. We don't have access to much (English language) TV so we bought this dvd with the intention of watching a couple of episodes a week. We ended up watching nearly half of them in one sitting. It's compulsive, funny and extremely well written. Enjoy!

I came across this show by accident while watching the Oprah Winfrey show. Oprah's advice was, if you haven't seen it then you need to get the dvd now. Well I took her advice and ordered it the same day. I wasn't disappointed. I was hooked after the pilot and watched the whole series with my 13 year old son in just 2 days. We loved it. The characters are great fun and easy to relate to and I can't wait to order series 2.
