The Shelley composed and sung songs are of course quite instant and very enjoyable. There's clever use of "Dirty" guitar sounds and the ever present harmonies that allowed songs such as "Ever Fallen In Love" to gain a legendary status. "Rendevous" presents a perfect example of this formula. Stevie Diggle has lost some of the manic singing (ala "Why She's a Girl From the Chainstore"...etc) - but his songs are as competent as ever and from the 14 tracks on offer, give the album some extra variety.
"Thunder of Hearts" reminds bands like "Ash" that the people whose ideas they nicked are still around and clipping ears....Bang in the middle of the album, there's a few "80's drum machine" type songs with lots of question and answer guitar work - an interval perhaps ? You need the rest because after "Phone", the pop becomes more alchoholic - "Sneaky" is the kind of rockier material that Robbie (false teen idol) Williams is trying to plunder to prove his fashionability and "indieness" - and he would be well advised to ask Shelley/Diggle to write him some tunes (he does have them written for him doesn't he?). No....your CD isn't broken on "Stranger In Your Town" - Its Diggle and Shelleys' organ again....skipping onto the finale you find "Choices" - which could have come off "Love Bites" (as a good track) - Sparse but classical Buzzcocks.
What makes this album a good buy - and if you can get it - is the limited free CD with 12 extra classic tracks and enhanced CD material such as promo videos and memorabilia.
For fans and new musos you can get 36 tracks, 3 videos and some pics of the Buzzcocks - its got to be worth it ?
