Product Description

Product Description

This is a stylish collection of classic hand knitwear designs using generic weights of yarn, 4 ply, DK and Aran. The book is built around a selection of garment shapes, jackets, cardigans and sweaters, with classic sleeve variations. All the designs have a modern twist, with detailing, simple colour work, beading and texture at collar and cuffs, but essentially the garments are knitted in just one colour. Photographed in a contemporary way, using interesting layouts, this book will appeal to a wide range of knitters, who are looking for a stylish and sophisticated approach to classic knitting. A vital part of the concept is the section that shows how to alter patterns to ensure a perfect fit. The timeless appeal of all these designs means the patterns will be used again and again, perhaps in different colourways or with different detailing.

Inspiring 8 Oct 2010
Yes, some of the designs do look a little dull, particularly as most of them are knitted in muted colours. A few purples and yellows would have brightened up the look of the book.

However, for basic shapes you can't fault this book. With so many wonderful and fancy yarns available complicated patterns aren't needed, as the yarns speak for themselves. This is where this book comes in. If you want to design your own knits but aren't sure about amounts of yarn and number of stitches etc required you can follow any one of these patterns and create your own unique design: longer/shorter length, add texture, anything. That's what I'm doing. A great basic book to have on the shelf. I would have given 5 stars but yarn yardage/meterage is not included, which is essential when substituting yarns.

Nice patterns 5 Aug 2009
These are fairly basic patterns and not difficult. The instructions are not perfect- you have to be able to think for yourself a bit and they use american terms, but at least they are wearable classic garments. A faily good buy compared to some knitting books!
