To produce a simply fantastic album!
Sascha Ring, aka Apparat, is one of the world's top producers. Although maybe not on the tip of everyone's tongue, the sounds he creates are simply beguiling and has helped the likes of Ellen Allien, and many others, to craft their sounds. Modeselektor are Berlin-based electronic duo, who can count Thom Yorke as a big fan!
The songs on here are as varied as you can get. Ok, they're electronic, but they're some well played guitars on here too! Sascha lends his vocals to 'Rusty Nails' which sounds very Apparat-like, and the more subdued closer, 'Out Of Sight'. There's no bad songs on here, even the bonus tracks are good, including 'Beats Way Sick', which has an MC rapping over it and I'm not a big fan of rap and hip hop even!
Elsewhere, dub and reggae feature, Paul St. Hilaire, who has worked with Basic Channel, turning up on 'Slow Match', setting it apart from the rest of the dub and dubstep out there now with atmospherics rising in the back. 'Sick With It' featuring Dellé Aka Eased From Seeed, is grimy-jungle, but definitely more commercial sounding. 'No 22' is Leftfield-esque dub techno.
On the other side, we have 'Porc #1' and 'Porc #2', the previous starts with a bluesy-rocky guitar line before developing into the latter, all chiming, soaring atmospherics, shoegaze-esque guitars and wispy vocals.
'Les Grandes Marches' is beautful. Synth lines pulse in from the start before developing into a very Apparat-like rhythm track, showing electronic music and programming is and can be better than the standard out there now.

How much the passing of Telefon Tel Aviv's Charles Cooper affected the making of this album I do not know, but what I will say is that it is a wonderful one.
With the combination of the talented Sascha Ring aka Apparat and dance-noise-meisters Modeselektor - Moderat has created some great music.
New Error starts off proceedings gently at first then comes to life in the form of a pumping march-like beat accompanied by a digital tune that then is awash with the sound of an extended vocal chorus that rides the wave.
Tracks Rusty Nails and Out Of Sight could have come from Apparat's album Walls, so quality control is certainly no issue there. The electronic psychedelica of Seamonkey gives way to the brilliant Slow Match that comes off like a tribal stomp with Paul St.Hillaire delivering some at times indecipherable word smithery but it's entrancing nevertheless.
The lull of ambient tracks 3 Minutes and Nasty Silence is then invaded by the cut it up synth dance of Sick With It featuring the vocal talents of of Delle AKA Eased From Seeed.
Porc 1 and 2 sound like an indie band on a high, all with anthemic chanting that builds up beautifully. Then comes the contemplative dance stomp of Les Grandes Marches. Not too dissimiler from the opening track, in such that despite its minimal nature you can hear the human heart beating behind the machines. This segues into Berlin, an ambient track that wouldn't sound out of place on the Blade Runner Soundtrack.
Nr.22 is another track in the same vein as A New Error and Les Grandes Marches, and although not as touching as one would have wished it to be, it does bring the listener back to foot tapping mode.... Read more ›

1st up, fantastic album....
Dense, multilayered electronicsoul, warm analogue syths meet cool digital manipulations to create an extremely enjoyable sonic journey thru dubbed out electronics, skittering breaks and emotive vocals.
I was turned onto Moderat after Rusty Nail got single of the week in the Guardian guide, for once the hype lived up to the write-up, Rusty nail I can imagine Thom Yorke producing in one of his more skittering dub-step inspired moments.
I've had the album on repeat since I bought it, it's sonically adventurous, with deep attention to detail, but shot thru with an immeadiacy that will make you play it again after 1st listen.
Best album of the year for me so far.

This is the second offering and first full-length from German producers Apparat (Sascha Ring), and Modeselektor (Sebastian Szary, Gernot Bronsert), and it issimply amazing.
From the pounding 'A new Error' and 'Nasty Silence', through to the more grandoise moments of 'Seamonkey' and 'Pork #1 & #2) the album is as close to flawless as it can be without being exactly that. The only slight dip in form is 'BeatsWaySick' which although is ofcourse exceptionaly produced and sounds huge is spoiled by the childish cliche'd rant coming courtesy of a fella named 'Busdriver'. However this is one slight issue in which is otherwise a truly astounding collection of tracks.
After seing Moderat live this Summer I was immeresed by the drawdropping visulisations produced by Pfanderei which played out behind them. They are the perfect accompaniment making the Moderat experience one that is both Auraly and Visualy astounding.

How lucky can you be? I've been looking for something in the vein of Unkle's Never Never Land, Massive Attack's 100th Window and Leftfield's El Cid track for a long time. And presto, here it is. And from funky, cool Berlin to boot. "Rusty Nails" bounces hypnotic and inviting whereas "Slow Train" threatens and sweats so you can't help moving your body and the Porc duet intrigues and challenges your mind. Best of all, "Les Grandes Marches", nods its head in recognition of such different genres as Prog Rock, Electronica and Stadium Anthem Rock. Can't wait to try it out in my car stereo.
