5.0 out of 5 stars I would recommend this. BUY IT!!!! 30 Aug 2011
Book is 150 pages and if you have an interest in "The Mob" you would wish it had 150 more it's that GOOD!! Written by Frankie DiMatteo who by his own addmission has met and mixed with some of these he's written about, in this book. Has chapters on the usual mobsters Al Capone,John Gotti,Ben Siegel, etc but also some interesting chapters on the likes of Paul Vario,Dominick Napolitano,Roy Demeo. 22 chapters on 22 different Mobsters including a few who don't get to much print. This was one book that once started is very hard to put down. Frankie's knowledge on the subject is second to none being born into the life. If you buy this book and enjoy it visit mobcandymag.com and buy one of their excellant "Mob Candy" magazines, also written and edited by Mr DiMatteo. If you visit mobcandy.com tell Frankie you came after reading my reveiw on Amazon u.k.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mob Candy's Best Yet!!!! 7 Sep 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
"Brooklyn Gangsters"-70 Square Miles of Blood and Balls-is a freaking phenomenal piece of true-crime. Any "LCN" or true-crime buff is going to definitely want to read this over, a couple of times, due to the spectacular stories and alot of formerly unheard of tales! From Al Capone, his mentor Frankie Yale, to Louis Buchalter a/k/a "Lepke" and Albert "the Mad Hatter" Anastasia! Each new chapter is awesome, filled with old, dated photos of the original "Midnight Rose's" in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where "Kid Twist", Abe Reles kept a sort of office, after all, he was a major player in "Murder Incorporated", who has been credited with thousands of deaths/murders. Learn about the others in the gang, "Blue-Jaw Magoon", "Buggsy", "Pittsburgh Phil", "Happy" & Louis Capone, who are all mentioned in the book with some very interesting facts about growing up and living in Brooklyn. GREAT PIECE OF WORK...A KEEPER!! Hope this author decides to write another book, his writing prose is smooth.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Paperback on an Ill-chosen Profession 29 Mar 2013
By Bill Emblom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Brooklyn is well known for its beloved Bums baseball team and now various authors have contributed to part of Brooklyn's infamous history, namely the number of gangsters and rub outs that have taken place there. The book provides us with a number of individuals such as Al Capone, Frankie Yale, Roy DeMeo, Harry Strauss, John Gotti, Louis Buchalter, Bugsy Siegel, Abe Reles, and the Mad Hatter himself, the Lord High Executioner Albert Anastasia. Quite a Hall of Infamy just to name a few that "grace" this book.

The book provides numerous photos of the individuals covered in each chapter in addition to a photo or two at the end of each chapter of Brooklyn landmarks that have nothing to do with crime.

This neat little paperback amply illustrates that the life of a mobster is not one to be envied. The year of birth and death is given for each one and shows that most of them were dispatched when they were in their twenties or thirties. This is a book of nobodies wanting to be somebodies and their early demise shows their lust for greed was not worth the price they eventually paid.

If I have one complaint with the book it is that the print is very small at least for these eyes of mine. I do recommend the book, however. I find it interesting to read about mobsters, but I certainly wouldn't suggest this way of life to anyone. It leads to either prison or an early death.
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended by Mob Entertainment Media C.E.O. Chris Chiarmonte aka Mafialife Chris. 14 Jan 2013

Many people try to do bio type stuff on gangsters, while quoting Wikipedia and reproducing old historical facts. But not many do it like Frank DiMatteo with personal details, of personal interactions from his own life, and/or perspective. This book got me re interested in many old school Brooklyn mobsters that I forgot about, and is highly recommended as one of my favorites. Cannot wait to see the manhattan gangsters book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but nothing at all new 24 Aug 2013
By msculati - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you have done a fair amount of mob reading then you will find nothing new here and can save yourself some money by skipping this "book". Additionally, it is very difficult to do an interesting "biography" in a few pages--which is essentially what this book is. A mob character's life/history described in a couple of pages--with no narrative that connects them all in a cohesive fashion.
Now, whoever the occasional commentator--Uncle Frankie is--he sounds as if he may have an exceptionally interesting book in his brain--if he is to be believed. Say's his father was big time and he uses the phrase "friends of ours"--indicating he is a made guy. He should write one
