Product Description

Although the great Art Blakey virtually started his professional life as a bandleader, it's interesting to note that, at that juncture, he was not a drummer but a piano player. Once bitten by the drumming bug, however, it was clear where his future lay. This two disc set offers 'Moanin'' and 'Orgy In rhythm', two albums originally released on the Blue Note label which offer an insight into just why Art Blakey will always be regarded as a master drummer.

This is a fabulous fabulous jazz Cd. If you are a Hi Fi Nut like me your enjoy the second Cd Orgy in Rhythm the quality is amazing. Your be taking around all the HI shows showing it off.

Moanin' what more can i say great album . I bought it for Along came Betty.

The only moan :) i have If.. you buy this wonderful CD is soon as you take the CD out the case, the case innards holding the CD's in situ break up, so flimsy. Take care.

Its a five star buy ***** fantastic sound on the second album Hi fi nerds take note.. I have a rocksan Kandy system with Tannoy evoloution speakers . Its an audio treat.

This set comprises the 1958 album Moanin' and 1957s Orgy in Rhythm both of which were released on the Blue Note label. The extensive running time of the latter required it be issued in 2 volumes in LP days. Here you get both and the lengthy running time of approx 119 minutes and an attractively packaged release with liner notes by Peter Gamble. Glenn Gretlund is building an impressive jazz reissue catalogue at Not Now so please give these new titles a listen.

Art Blakey a favourite musician, excellent taste, so why did he record this second disc which has limited appeal and is a waste of valuable space which could have been used for the appreciation of jazz lovers?

Great little intro into Blakey. 23 Feb. 2013
By Chad Mannlein - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
A nice intro to Blakey albeit a little disjunct in its album pairings. However, for the price it can't be beat and the Not Now's remastering of the discs is solid. Overall, a great deal for someone wanting to check out the seminal jazz drummer.

Moanin' is one of Art's best, and the additional of an extra album is an added bonus! If your a fan of hard bop, pick this up!

Classic 25 May 2014
By Michael Clark - Published on Amazon.com

Just as advertised, a jazz classic. Just happen to have bought this along with Blue Train by John Coltrane and noticed that Lee Morgan plays piano on each. That dude can play.
