I knew some of the Beat Generation, William Burroughs was a mate as was Alexander Trocchi as well some remarkable musicians, junkies are no snobs:
I badly wanted to be cool
Now I'm simply cold
I also wanted to die young
Now I'm bloody old
I cranked up with Trocchi
Zoned out with Burroughs
My main concern now?
My magic tomorrows.
I spent a lot of time getting stoned, not entirely wasted though I definitely
could have condensed my experiences into less than the 20 years it took but I have a lot of sweet times tucked away in my memory for safe keeping. I started to write seriously when I went on a second chance for women course though I had always been admired for my jaunty amusing missives when I was in prison ( where I was an ace love letter scribe)or on a 'cure'. My first article I sent off was published in the Guardian and I thought I had discovered easy money, it took me fifteen or more years before my second piece was published by them.
My first novel A Blues for Shindig is partly autobiographical though much embellished & covers a year in the life of a young woman much like me. It had some rave reviews on Amazon & I have had readings in London & Berlin which have been a great success. I am writing another novel about addicts & their loves & lives
' A Kind of Love Story 'is the working title and is ironic. It follows two girls through a 'cure' & back into the world. My second novel needs an edit & rewrite. It is about a crew of creative skivers & flying words I am cowering away from it but will galvanise myself into action some time soon
One of my short plays is being filmed at the moment & I am busy with a blog .
