Product Description

Review

"This introductory guide to music mixing provides theoretical and practical information on the technical aspects of sound engineering, as well as discussion of the creative aspects of the art. Beginning with a section on concepts and principles, the bulk of the work focuses on specific tools and their uses, while a final section provides walk-throughs of simple mixing projects based on music genres. Chapters include numerous illustrations and an emphasis on technical versus creative lessons is stressed throughout."--Reference and Research Book News

"Praise for the first edition: Absolutely first rate. The standard of writing by Roey Izhaki, as well as the examples on the CD are just superb."--Mark Mynett, Senior Lecturer, Department of Engineering & Technology, School of Computing & Engineering, University of Huddersfield

"This book has become indispensable for me, and now resides on my desk, often open in front of me when I’m mixing! If you only get one book on mixing, make it this one. So far it’s the only one I’ve got, and I find it more than comprehensive. I’m on my second read through to pick up all the things I missed first time around!" -- Ben Trigg, Musician and Studio Owner, Musicians' Republic

Format: Paperback
This is a great book for anyone who is new into the world of mixing and I would say even for people who are deep into mixing and need something tangible for reference time to time. It's written by one of the most authoritative people on this subject and very well laid out with respect to topics and their explanation. It has links to a website which explain all the stuff written in there in terms of sound/music examples, so that really helps a lot. Believe me, the best "tool" that you can get, if you are starting out with mixing, is this book!

A very detailed walk through all of the aspects of audio mixing.
The chapter on compression is particularly good - going into exactly how a compressor works and what attack and release time really mean on an electronics subsystem level.

Mixing Audio, Practices and Tools is simply a fabulous Book on Mixing Audio. The amount of work that has been put into it is simply amazing. Not just a well written, properly researched book. It provides a superfluity of high quality professional appraisals and examples of the state of the art of mixing; the book itself is a statement and in depth explanation of the State of the Art of Mixing. Written by someone that has enthusiasm, passion and abundant understanding of what it takes to mix music professionally in the digital age. Additionally it is not only a superior, readable work but would provide future studio reference material.
