Another fun addition to the Mackenzie Blue series 2 Mar 2011
By KidsReads - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Twelve-year-old Mackenzie Blue, or Zee as her friends and family call her, has survived her week at camp and is now back at school. But life is never boring or routine for Zee. Right away, she and the rest of her band, The Beans, start intense rehearsals for their big performance at the Brookdale Day festival. They are even going to play two of Zee's own songs. Zee's BFF Ally, who is visiting from France, is an honorary member of The Beans and will perform with them, the last big bang before she heads home to Paris at the end of the week.

Of course, Zee's life is never simple, and she usually has a million events going on at once. Another excitement this week is that one of Zee's friends, Jasper, is creating his own social networking site. He calls it Bluetopia and invites a few of his pals to test it. Zee is so excited about it and has tons of ideas, like having a fashion club and games to play; she even creates a private blog for herself to replace writing in her journal, pouring her thoughts and feelings into it. But then those few friends invite more friends, and Jasper is a bit overwhelmed with the maintenance of the site --- until something goes seriously wrong.

And speaking of Jasper, Zee has been having extra feelings for her best guy pal, which confuses her. She is supposed to have a crush on Landon, but finds that she doesn't have anything to talk about with him. While her heart used to pound when she was near Landon, it now thunders like crazy when she thinks of Jasper. But Zee doesn't know quite what she's feeling and worries that a crush might destroy her great friendship with Jasper. And then, to add even more chaos to the mix, Zee's parents make an unexpected announcement that will change her life forever.

Tina Wells's Mackenzie Blue series is so much fun and perfect for young girls. The story bounces with high energy and speeds by with surprise after surprise. Many readers will connect with the spunky Zee, whose passions include music, fashion, texting, journal writing, and, most of all, her friends. She encounters real-life problems during her adventures, and usually manages to work through them with the help of her friends and family. There are many vibrant characters to add variety and interest, conflicts and struggles. The illustrations by Michael Segawa are distinctive and lively, adding an extra zing to the experience. Fans will have a blast with Zee and will eagerly look forward to the next book in the series.
