If you're thinking of breaking into MMA as either a competitor or as a coach, add this book to your library. As a karateka I already had a pretty good stand-up and kicking game but a limited knowledge of ground work. Frank Shamrock takes you simply through the eight positions of power, giving submission holds for each position allowing the ground game novice to get a well rounded and effective knowledge of simple techniques. Equally, if you're a ground game specialist looking for a bit of advice on stand-up, some sound advice is given too. All the tutorial sections have easy to follow instructions with excellent step by step pictorial guides.

Whilst this book doesn't go into a massive amount of detail, it really does give you all the basic information required to get you started. If you're a complete novice, don't forget that there is no substitute for good instruction so get out there and find an established school with experienced coaches and use the book to help expand your knowledge then hit the roads to increase your fitness. Hard work then more hard work is the only way to success.

I highly reccommend this great book.

Good Intro into MMA. I like Franks philosophy on what the sports about, and how one should conduct themselves. And why it can be for anyone wanting to lead a good healthy lifestyle. It's not just for people who want to be the next King of the Cage. It is more aimed at beginners, but there are some bits of interest for the more seasoned martial artist

Frank Shamrock is a five time UFC champion, a King of Pancrase champion and a Showtime champion. He has pushed the bounderies on the Physical, Mental and Spiritual aspects of the fight game so who better than to write a book on MMA?

In this book he covers all aspects of mixed martial arts, with an array of techniques that suit both beginner and advanced. He sets up the perfect base for anyone looking to get into MMA and shows techniques that help those who are more advanced. He covers nutrition, flexibility, strength training, fight specific drills and training as well as how to develop your mind into the warrior mindset. As a competitive fighter myself I have a massive collection of books yet this is the one I recommend to everyone and as a nice compliment you may wish to purchase Mikey Rooney's Training For Warriors.Training for Warriors: The Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts Workout

You'd be a fool not to buy this book, and comparitively the price on this one is amazing, especially bearing in mind it has an endless amount of colour photographs detailing everything. Buy this book and then build your collection upon it, you won't be dissappointed.
