A very pedestrian book, with large amounts of unnecessary detail in the writing. Slow paced in terms of action - and something a little unreal about the whole story line.
For anyone who is a real live priest the writing presents a rose tinted view of parish life. I have yet to hear a priest take a call from the funeral director, and say immediately, yes 2.00 on Thursday is fine! Similarly I know few priests who have the luxury of being able to hang around the church door 20 minutes before the congregation arrives to meet and greet.
