I have always found computer music rather daunting. I used to read magazines on the subject and I often felt that I was reading another language. In the end I came across this, reviewed in an issue of Computer Music magazine, and it appealed to me because it said it was 'extremely easy to use', recieving a 9/10.
Having used a demo of the standard (£60) version and compared it to other similar software, Reaper and Cubase, I found this so much easier to use. On Reaper I used it for over an hour and the most I got out of it was a metronome- though that says more about me than that piece of software. However, with Mixcraft I was able to put down a Midi track down immediately.

This digital audio workstation, comes with it's own plug-ins and the ability to play third party plug-ins. In terms of audio and Midi tracks, they are unlimited and are only limited by your computer's processor. Incidentally, if your Computer's processor is struggling there is a freeze track option that transforms any track into audio.

I went for the pro version because it had extra plug-ins, and effects, though many of these plug-ins can be found on the internet for free. Pianissimo being an exception to this, which is a commercial product. Whether you go for this or the standard version would be dependent on your needs. In terms of the basic interface they are identical. Personally I don't regret going for the more expensive option because of the extra effects that are available to tweak my sounds. Though, fairly easy to use the effects on the pro version would take a long time to master or outgrow.

If you are new to Computer music and aren't the most patient or computer literate I would recommend this as it can do the majority of tasks that more expensive DAW's can, while being intuitive enough that you can start making music without sweating over the manual.

I've been using Mixcraft for the last few years and have upgraded every time a new version is available. I find it so easy to use. I have tried Fruity Loops, Cake Walk, Reason, Propeller-Head and Steinbergs offerings but they are all very complicated to get started with (In my opinion) where as Mixcraft is easy to get started with straight away! It comes with its own set of imformative You tube style walk throughs via the Mixcraft online University.
I have used it to record music for solo projects and for my band The Small Town Models ([...] You can also add sound tracks to video and edit video with it. It comes with a full range of virtual instruments and effects. Its compatable with all standard after market plug ins and there are thousands of 3 party instruments available on the internet.
For the ease of use and the amazing versatility of this product I have to score it 5 stars and give it a 10/10....
