By William Cohen VINE™ VOICE
I notice from one of the reviews of the earlier edition of this book, that some people think the lines rather naff and old-fashioned. But if these critics ever stood up and tried out their own comedy writing in front of an audience, they would get a big shock.

Making an audience laugh is all about rhythm. The crafted one-liner works best. It's easy to read, it has a sting and it is usually rather silly. That means everyone from the teenagers to the oldies get the joke.

Take this one, "We're here to celebrate a love match, pure and simple; Lucy's pure and David's... a very nice guy."

He sums up almost everything you need to know in his introduction. Yes he's a bit of a 60s throwback in his style, but that's where he comes from. Carefully select the gems in this book and you'll be a hit.

Some amusing one liners but I wouldn't dream of using 95% of them, utterly naff or crude! More an amusing books of short jokes.

The title of my review says it all. If you really think that the answer to your best man speech problems is to buy a book that consists solely of well-worn, cliched best man jokes then you need to rethink your best man speech strategy.

The worst kind of best man speech you can do is read out generic best man jokes. It doesn't matter if they come from a book or the internet - the point is they're not personal to the groom and you are letting your best friend down if you don't write specific anecdotes about him.

If you aren't a great writer or a natural comedian, no problem - get a best man speech expert to help you. But never go down the car-crash route that this book recommends. It will only end in tears of boredom for the audience and tears of frustration for the groom.
