More About the Author

In the beginning, there was the word - and the word was music. Chloe couldn't tell you much about what's happening in Eastenders - she doesn't even know who the characters are - but ask her about music and she is a veritable encyclopaedia.

In her teens she toured the world with bands and produced her own music magazine. By the time she left school, her tutor's report in her National Record of Achievement read: "A writer beyond all possible doubt, Chloe is at her best behind a pen" and "her innate linguistic fluency is outstanding".

Following an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Chloe completed a master's degree in Magazine Journalism, achieving a first with distinction.

She then became a travel writer and music critic for various newspapers, websites and magazines, followed by a stint as contributing editor at Real Travel magazine, with two monthly columns. She is also the launch editor of a forthcoming monthly music magazine.

She penned the first major biography on pop sensation Katy Perry (A Life of Fireworks, Omnibus Press, 2011), exclusively interviewing the girl with whom Katy shared her first infamous lesbian kiss. The experience was immortalised in Katy's No.1 hit 'I Kissed A Girl' but no-one had heard the inside story - until now.

Subsequently her book on Jessie J was packed with exclusives, made the front page of national newspaper The Sun, provoked a media storm on almost 300 news websites and sold out online within 24 hours of its release.

At the following link, she explains away some of the misconceptions about her tenth book, Amy Winehouse: The Untold Story:

Meanwhile, the soundtracks to her scribbles include Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse and early Lady Gaga.

Bought this for my grandson who bleeds placebo and especially Brian Molko. I ended up reading it myself and have also found myself singing some of Placebo's songs!. Now to the book. I feel this is a brief glossary of Brian and Placebo's rise to fame. There's probably not alot of information that fans of Brian will already know but it is nice for a Placebo or Brian collector. Brian was born in Brussels and moved around alot as a child and teenager which is ironic as he would go on to do alot of travelling in later years as a singer in a great rock band. It is always interesting to hear people's stories and how they got to where they now are as Brian perhaps could of been an unlikely singer. He rebelled against his strict religious mother and the church and his pretty absent workaholic father. A chance meeting with former schoolmate and future guitarist of Placebo -Stefan Oldslal helped set Brian on what path he currently belongs - making great music to adoring fans.

Misunderstood is the title but that can be misleading as he is only ignored by those with little understanding of him (or simply not wanting too). Brian is an educated talented man with an honest persona and one that wants to be accpeted - high heels, painted fingernails and all. He is unique and original as his rock band. You will probably either love or loath Placebo or Brian -there isn't much middle ground. But one thing you can't deny is his honest way with himself and others,he doesn't and can't pretend to be anyone else. The book was simple and told quite well by an enthused Placebo fan but if you are wanting a but more of who Brian really is you will have to wait for his own story if he should write one. Inside the book there is the tales of drugs and debauchery and the headline grabbing misdemeanours but all for what?

Nice to read, but not any new information for a Placebo fan. Still, nice enough to have if you like this sort of thing.

This is a competent and thorough bio, well researched, full of great trivia. Not quite sure if the song interpretations are the author's own or from the band members, though since most everything else seems well documented, I suppose she had some valid reference for the song meanings too. I appreciated the mention of Molko's side projects, many of which I was never aware of, and most of which are available to view on YouTube. I did appreciate the mature attempt at insight into the facts and events in Molko's life and the proliferation of quotes throughout. Enjoyable and kept my interest overall. I would recommend it to fill in the gaps or as a first exposure to Placebo.
Amazing book on the beloved Placebo frontman Brian Molko and his rise from outcast to rockstar. 7 Nov. 2014

I've been a long time fan of Brian Molko and Placebo since the debut album and am always looking for more things to add to my collection. I was really excited to find this book and ordered it straight away. It's actually a really nice book, bigger than I had thought with a really nice glossy cover and definitely full of details on Brian and the band's rise to fame. Starting out from the years prior to the band meeting and forming the band, it gives you some insight on them as people (mainly Brian) and how it all began with so much little known information. I am very pleased with this book and haven't been able to put the book down since it's arrival. I'm almost finished with it and it hasn't even been 48 hours. This just shows that it has managed to keep my attention which is a hard task to do. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Brian and Placebo.
