Rare Chris Connor at her Finest!! 29 Jan 2014
By Garby Gable - Published on Amazon.com

The Japanese always manage to appreciate and release recordings of somethings that we sometimes manage to miss and such is the case with this album "Misty" recorded between 1958-1960 for single sessions (except "I'm Afraid The Masquerade is Over" which was an out take of an album session). These songs were previously only available on single releases; however, some of these tracks can be found on the Japanese cd releases of the Chris Connor Atlantic catalogue such as "I Miss You," "Chris Connor," The Best of Chris Connor," A Jazz date With Chris Connor," (these songs were first released on cd in 1991). Other songs can only be found on the rare Japanese LP release Misty which was only sold in 1975.

So although you may have heard a few songs previously on Japanese released recordings such as "senor Blues," "Misty," "Moon Ride," "Invitation," "Under Paris Skies, "Flying Home," "I Won't Cry Anymore," and "Circus," this CD is worthy having because of the 6 rare recordings of songs that appear on no other albums, which include:

Chris's rendition of "I Sold My heart To the Junkman" is not only sung well, but her style of delivery tells a story that makes you pay attention to every word. "I Heard a Bluebird " is a cool hip song with great lyrics and Chris manages to make it even "cooler," and a nice addition that rounded out side 1 of the original album. Honorable mention should be the cool, laid back song done in classic Chris Connor style, "To Each his Own" along with the Asian infused jazz ballad "Fortune Cookie that manages to use subtle Asian instrumentation that is not over powering, thus keeping the song both authentic and memorable. ("I'm Afraid) the Masquerade is Over" is a rarity in the true sense of the word for Chris and can only be found on this album, although when you listen to it you may find yourself asking why?. Chris' sings it with passion and manages to make it her own; what a lovely way to close this 14 track import cd.

The CD plays remarkably well, with a nice crisp sound. Even though the very limited liner notes are in Japanese, the back cover has a listing of the tracks in English with a small signed photo of Chris herself in her heyday! I strongly recommend this limited , rare edition for the true Chris Connor collector.
Great Japanese Release on Atlantic 24 Feb 2014

Misty is finally available after several years! It contains alternate takes of some of her great singing which were not released in the US. Great liner notes.

Chris Connor WARM COOL The Atlantic Years 32 Jazz 32108 is also available which covers her Atlantic releases with anecdotes
and detailed information on the Atlantic albums. Misty is mentioned there also.

So everthing Chris released on the Atlantic label has been touched on.

Worth seeking out is the CD entitled Chris Connor Atlantic 75-80769-1 (originally Atlantic 1228) which is a facsimile of her first Atlantic release. It has been remastered and is available on Amazon by itself or on a collection of Atlantic releases. The newest Atlantic release contains 4 and one half of her releases and fills in some blanks.
