I rediscovered this album recently when I was clearing out my loft. My copy was an LP and very scratched. Someone however, had the initiative and good sense to check Amazon and I am now the proud owner of what I consider to be one of the greatest album ever. Dorothy Moore's voice is superb. The songs must surely have been written specifically for her because her delivery of each song is dynamite. If you are still listening to Gabrielle's album 'Rise' then this album is a must although I rate Moore's voice as superior. I find it difficult to name a favourite track, although some are clearly easier to listen to. I suspect many people will probably list tracks 1 to 5 as their most favourite. I personally think this would be an injustice to the other tracks.
Getting couples onto the dance floor wont be a problem with this album on full blast. Its funky R&B at its best. Tracks such as 'Dark end of the street', 'Laugh it off' and 'I dont want to be with nobody but you' will have your heart thumping, your body swaying and you dying to learn the words so you can accompany the great Diva. Happy Listening.

Although the quality of her music suggests that she ought to have done so, Dorothy Moore never had a #1 hit in the UK or in the USA pop or R+B charts. Her most famous hit, Misty blue, was actually a cover of a sixties country song. It was a top 10 country hit originally for Wilma Burgess and a few months later for Eddy Arnold. Billie Jo Spears returned the song to the country top 10 after Dorothy's enormous (but not #1) hit version revived interest in the song. I haven't come across many versions of the song, but if Wikipedia is to be believed (not always, but most of the time), I've been looking in the wrong places, or I've forgotten some versions that I own copies of :-)

Misty blue is not the only song featured here that was originally a country song. Others include Funny how time slips away (a Willie Nelson song), He thinks I still care (originally recorded by George Jones as She thinks I still care) and Knee deep in a river (originally recorded by Kathy Mattea). Of course, some soul songs were covered by country singers including (among those featured here) I believe you (for which Dorothy's version is the original) and Dark end of the street.

Whatever the origins of the various songs, this is a great collection of music by a great soul singer who deserved a lot more success than she actually had.
