I vaguely remember repeats of this show on channel 4 some years ago, so I decided to take a chance on buying it, and its great! The more you watch it the better it gets. The Palomino star of the show Mr Ed (real name Bamboo Harvester) and lead character Wilbur Post (Alan Young) appear to have a genuine affection for each other. Mr Ed's mouth movements are perfectly synched to the voice-over actor, so it appears that he really does talk. the show itself revolves around the fact that Mr Ed will only speak to Wilbur, and never in front of anyone else, so nobody knows the true situation, Wilbur frequently finds himself in amusing tightspots because of this. Wilbur also spends most of his time with Mr Ed and neglects his wife, Carol (Connie Hines) who occasionally threatens to leave him, also there's a cycle of argue/not speaking/kiss and make up. Husband and Wife neighbours, Roger (Larry Keating) and Kay (Edna Skinner) are not just supporting characters, they are an integral part of the show, their dry, witty remarks to each other, and to Wilbur especially, are one of the highlights of this non-swearing, smut free show.
This show began in 1961, twenty-one black and white, 25 minute episodes feature on this 3-disc Boxset. Picture quality is ok, there are no subtitles.
