This review is from: Mist (Kindle Edition)
i ended up reading till midnight, not ideal the night before christmas.overall the book was brilliant as a 13 year old i loved it but the book is not as complex or intricate as some readers desire but i loved the constant felling of excitement, fear and underliningly hope for the young girl tryin to save her beautiful if slightly stupid sister who always the center of the party becomes the center of danger.

I loved this book :)The author Kathryn JAmes came to our school and that's how I got to know about it. I think I am like Nell the heroine. I joined the Face book page Kathryn James Books and tha is where I found that they are extra stories too. She calls them webi-stories and they fill in till the next book and tell you more about the Elven and the other characters. They are quick to read which I like. Here they are [...]

Miss-tified,
This review is from: Mist (Paperback)
Nell is a much younger heroine than I'm used to reading about, and yet this story took me by the hand and led me into a strange, new world. The characters are easy to picture, and although Nell's sister seems to be a caricature of the school queen bee I found myself happily accepting some absurdities :) The light-hearted parts made me smile, and the darker bits caught my attention. I cared enough to want things to work out for Nell and I like that most of the characters are complex and not purely good or bad. Even Gwen who is always self-absorbed and has the attention-span of a gnat, occasionally shows a little more depth. Gwen and Nell's world outside of the Elven mist, is very much a world of fitting in at school and the trials and tribulations of being a social misfit, respectively. Gwen's a handful as a sixteen year old, and often disobeys her police-officer mum. The girls rarely see their father, who also works in the police force, though his mother, - their motorcycle-nan - Dru, does make time to visit them The romance here is of the first-crush variety, but I think older readers will still relate to Nell's feelings. Nell has to deal with not only liking a boy for the first time, but not being able to tell others about him, since she is one of the few humans actually able to remember the Elven boy - for he chooses to make others forget him, but finds that Nell is an exception to the rule...he can't make her forget. The world of the Elven lies beyond the creepy, forest mists. There are different different types - or families - of Elven, but Mist deals specifically with one family and it is hinted that while they can be unpredictable, they are not the scariest Elven out there. The sequel sounds likely to be a lot darker - yay!
