Biography

No female rap artist paralleled the success of Missy Elliott, neither during her reign nor before, and none was more deserving. Unlike most of urban music's female superstars, Missy writes her own songs as well as performs them, and her creative wit in on a par with her stylish demeanor. In addition to her talent and showmanship, she established herself as a genuine hitmaker alongside her ... Read more in Amazon's Missy Elliott Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

"She's a Bitch" isn't just the first single from Missy Elliott's much-awaited sophomore album, it's a statement of pride that repurposes that five-letter malediction for our heroine's own uses. The spirit of freedom and strength it represents reverberates throughout her tough-minded Da Real World. Elliott and creative cohort Timbaland shine again, hijacking song forms and beats, shifting tempos in the middle of tracks, and incorporating guests such as Outkast's Big Boi, Aaliyah, and Eminem to heighten intensity and drama as in a good film. Elliott and Timbaland are still in their early 20s, and it's a smart bet that they'll be around when their 30s roll up. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars The Originators 2 Mar 2002
Format:Audio CD
Overall this is a solid album, although there are a few weak songs towards the end. It is definitely an album to play whenever you want some heavy rhythms and fantastic rapping. Missy Elliot and Timbaland make an unbeatable team, and this album is a great mixture of manic up tempo trippy beats and ballads with a twist of futuristic sounds and drums.

Many other artists and producers have tried to immitate this Missy and Timba's sound, but nothing compares to the original and best.

The wonderful thing that separates Missy from other rappers is that she is not taking herself too seriously. Her lyrics are always comical and not obsessed with sex and violence. She does not sell records by being aggressive or by causing controversy (unlike certain other platinum blonde rappers...).

This is an album about women being strong, powerful creatures who can overcome anything that life throws at them. If someone calls Missy a bi*ch then she'll reply by saying 'thankyou for the compliment'.

There are many different 'guest' appearances made on this album, which gives each song a different feel. From Eminem and Missey's bickering on 'busa rhyme' to Byonce Knowles sultry vocals on 'Crazy Feelings'. All the guests are superb artists in their own right, and each add to the depth of the album as a whole.

A brilliant taste of modern music and I'm sure Missy and Timbaland will be around making music for many years to come. Many immitate, but these are the originators.

5.0 out of 5 stars Missy Does It Again!! 20 April 2001
Format:Audio CD
In my opinion she is the best female in modern hiphop. Accompanyied by a class A producer, Timbaland, Missy blasts out an excellent tune, pumping beats and always manages to wipe out some lyrics to match!! The complete recipe!! The opening track "Beat Bitters" sets off the mood for the album perfectly, it starts off good and finishes even better! Missy teams up wiv Silm Shady in Busa Rhyme, the bad thing I found that maybe it was a bit too long?..? But still a wicked tune!! Then All 'n' My Grill comes on, and all the ladies should clap in homage, the girl tells it how it is!! One of my favorites, however, is when Missy slows it down with Beyoce from Destiny's Child.

It's an all round excellent album, there isn't those one or two songs that you always skip over. Five stars is being modest!!

4.0 out of 5 stars all in her grill 22 Jan 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
wow! i defiently like this album. as she says a bitch is a strong invidualistic women, so missy u win that title! true this album may have many expletives in it but this just adds to the humour of the album. 'toungue in cheek' that is how i would describe her music. with her empathsis on money, fast cars and of course those hot boyz, it just reflects her enviroment she lives in yet with an ironic twist. i especially enjoyed "Dangerous Mouths" which shows that you gotta respect, or else! the addition of eminem i particularly enjoyed (i am a big fan of his!) and added humour. to anyone listening to this album i say you defiently have to listen to the lyrics because some of the lines are just class!
