I don't know what happened to my copy of this album, but I must have worn holes in it when it came out. There is such a fantastic mix in this collection. Slow, rich tunes that take you away, and if memory serves me right -- blaring horn samba/latin style numbers that make you want to shake it! Teddy Edwards is an underrated master on the tenor saxophone. His peers often overshadowed him, and I had hoped that this album might bring him to light via the relatively reliable Gitanes label, as well as the pairing of such a highly visible guest vocalist as Tom Waits.
A note to any Tom Waits fan: there are two gems on this album that will blow you away... The heartfelt and classic "Little Man" and the bluesy caterwauling of "I'm not your fool." They stand alone from any previous Waits albums, and have a unique dignity and class in this particular context.
If Teddy leads you to Tom, or Tom leads you to Teddy, you'll be a happy customer either way. It's worth the wait of trying to get your hands on this one.
And if you have my copy -- please give it back.

I've been waiting for this CD to become available for 6 years and now I'm proud to have this in my collection. Tom Waits is a fantastic compliment to Teddy Edwards! If you like hard-bop jazz and Tom Waits, you must add this to your collection. My only complaint is that eventually the CD ends.

I bought this CD 17 years ago on a whim because I'm a Tom Waits fan and I like Jazz. I've listened to it so many times and never tire of it.
I've bought several other Teddy Edwards CDs since hoping to find more of the same, but just didn't enjoy them as much as this one. I can't understand why it is out of print? You can find the song "Little Man" on Tom Waits' "Orphans" CD, but not the other one, "I'm Not Your Fool Anymore". Of the other songs I can only find "The Blue Sombrero" played by Saskia Laroo.
If you like Jazz and a bonus of Tom Waits, buy it and you won't regret it.
