Book Description

When twenty-seven year old fashion designer Berry Lake moves to Mission Ranch to live with her father, the last thing she expects is to be caught up in a murder investigation. Or could the last thing Berry expects be to help her father, Mitch, fend off the local retired ladies who are chasing after him? Or, could the last thing Berry expects be to fall for Sheriff Mark Fernandez who thinks she knows more about the murder than she’s saying?
What Berry really didn't expect is that once she and her father determine who the murderer is, no one is safe.

More About the Author

Barbara got her first horse, Country Squire, when she was eleven years old and considers herself lucky to have spent at least as much time on him as she did in the dirt. Next came Yankee Doodle who was far more cooperative and patient with her. Over the years, she showed in equitation classes, hunter classes, went on hunter paces, taught horseback riding at her stable called Sunshine Farm, and went fox hunting on an Appaloosa who would jump anything. With her Dutch Warmblood, Barbara began eventing and again found herself on a horse with great patience and who definitely taught her everything important she knows about horses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neatly Packaged Cozy Mystery 2 Mar. 2012
By drkhimxz - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The only previous reviewer,as of this date, has written of being disappointed because this was not the expected romance. That is true. this is not to be categorized as a Romance novel but as a Cozy Mystery with a touch of the customary romance when the heroine is a young woman.
The central characters, retired businessman and 27 year old daughter, who has come to live permanently with him, since she could not find a satisfactory outlet for her creativity in dress design in the family business, now run by her two older siblings, are an appealing duo. Not to be forgotten is the puppy with whom the daughter has arrived who has made the duo a trio. In the small community in which they live, the father, recently widowed, is of course the target of the amorous attention of the like-aged woman; the daughter rapidly assumes that status among some of the younger men. The mystery arises out of the death, accident or murder, of the new owner of the ranch on which their house is located. Aside from the mystery plot, there is, of course, a running sub-theme of the contrast between the NYC and California non-urban setting, another, the match-making proclivities of the older women with regard to the daughter and their efforts to come closer to the father, still very much missing his one and only wife.
This is light, moderately amusing, fare, heavier on character than on problem-solving, but with a sufficient 'Who Dun It' aspect to satisfy Cozy readers, though probably too uncomplicated for the puzzle-seeking admirers of the genre. I found it a pleasing visit to The Ranch and believe other Cozy readers will find it a comfortable fit with their reading needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder and Handsome Men 29 Dec. 2014

Berry has come to California to live with her dad and start a new life for herself. While taking a walk one night on the ranch where they live, Berry and her dad come upon the body of the new ranch owner. Was he murdered or is it just an accident? Berry has trouble keeping her nose out of things and has to do her own investigating, that may just get her possibly hurt.
A good cozy with fun characters, especially the " harem " and twists.
Give this book a try!
Hope there is another book to this series.

A fun mystery with great characters and just enough twists to keep it interesting! I found it well worth reading!
4.0 out of 5 stars Original story line 3 Oct. 2013

I've certainly never read a book quite like this one. The story line had twists I never could imagine or predict. I found the dog in the story highly obnoxious and the characters pretentious but overall a good read.

All in all a good read. Needs some editing. Good who dun it. But found the dialog a bit scattered. Loved Berry and her father. Some unbelievable aspects. A little more romance would be good! I will try others from Ms. Morgenroth.
