More About the Author

Author, humanitarian and Founder of Dianetics and Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard is one of the most acclaimed figures of the modern age.

In a writing career spanning more than half a century, he was both a leading light of American fiction and the author of more than 35 million words of nonfiction--the single most embracive statement on the human mind and spirit, providing the only road to total spiritual freedom.

To date, more than 250 million copies of his works are in circulation worldwide, in 71 languages. All told, those works comprise over 3,000 recorded lectures and some 5,000 writings, including nineteen New York Times bestsellers.

Accordingly, and in testament to the magnitude of his literary legacy, there are his four Guinness World Records: most published author, most translated author, the author with the most audiobook titles and the single most translated non-religious work.

Yet the essence of L. Ron Hubbard's legacy is perhaps best expressed in his simple declaration:

"I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days.

"These shadows look so thick to him and weigh him down so that when he finds they are shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again in the sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted as he is."

5.0 out of 5 stars Best so far 18 Oct 2013
By Zero
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was a little bit better compared to the previous books. It has a lot of hilarious scenarios. The ending was always still the best (just like the previous books) because The Countess Krak was finally arrived on our planet and she'll surely help her boyfriend Jettero Heller to complete his mission.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest to Goodness Satire 9 April 2013
By TheTock - Published on
I'm just finishing up the third book, The Enemy Within, and I really enjoyed it.
It seems there are three types of people who review the Mission Earth books online. Scientologists who obviously haven't read it write glowing faux pas pieces; anti-Scientologists who obviously haven't read it write scathingly mean diatribes; and then there's the regular, honest reader.
You've got to remember two things when reading these books. One, they're an alien perspective on Earth life, what an alien would think seeing humans do the things humans do. Two, they were written in the early half of the 1980's.
The books are not garbage. The second volume was nominated for a Hugo Award in 1987 -- that's nothing to sneeze at. They are what they are, scifi satire. Take them lightly, that's how they were intended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 28 Feb 2009
By Vic - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am not a scientologist and I still think this series was great...despite what some reviewers would like you to believe. The story is told from the perspective of an alien. This makes his interpretations of observations from Earth (like Bugs Bunny the philosopher) hillarious. If you do not have the imagination to place yourself in the characters perspective, then you might not like the story...but if you have an ounce of reading skill, you will love this story.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best ever science fiction 11 Jan 2014

When L Ron Hubbard set out to write this series, he wanted to write the biggest science fiction work ever written. At ten volumes, it is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) science fiction work ever written. Brilliantly plotted, it is a delight to read. There is an element of satire running through the series. This must be one of the most underrated science fiction work of all time.
