I picked this up because of the cover which is eye-catching given the recent story of the young girl missing in Portugal.
The story is fast paced and the author has a neat turn of phrase which with she elicits emotion both positive and negative, sad and funny. There's a nice 'split screen' thing going on with the two main characters investigating the same case in different locations which allows us to meet more people. Her characters are extremely well painted and memorable. I particularly liked the sinister bad guy who stalks around in the background for the most part and the main detective John who manages to find trouble even when there really isn't any. Definitely recommended.
